January Update

 

Can we ignore the fact that I am posting a January update at the end of April? Please?

After all the talk and promises of consistency and being consistent, guess who disappeared for 2 months?

I have a list of excuses that I will plug here so if you will excuse me:

1.       My laptop stopped working for two weeks

2.       I started an internship

3.       I started a business

4.       Many other things.

That’s not to say that this blog is not important to me but you know how it is.

So, today I’ll be talking about my digital marketing journey so far. When I announced to LinkedIn that I wanted to leave the Banking Industry and pursue a career in Digital Marketing, I was very nervous. Mainly because sometimes when I announce stuff, I don’t do them. But yet somehow, I have managed to bag a Digital Specialist and Content Strategist certificate. And for me that is no small feat.

Truth is that I had no expectations for myself. I didn’t think that I will come this far. I prayed and asked God to help me this time around so I guess that will be the winning factor.

I am very excited to have achieved this especially considering the many times I wanted to give up and the any times people turned up their noses at me because of the industry I was entering into- WTH is digital marketing?

Someone actually called me unemployed even though I had explained what I did to them. Some people say a lot and do a lot of things when you try to start something new. They will tell you how to live if you let them and they will put doubt and fear in your mind.

On the other hand, the words that my friend P told me was the fuel that kept me going “If this is what you have decided to do, make sure that you do it and you don’t lose focus” Very powerful words. And she went to tell me a story about our friend who changed her career and she’s gone on to do many great things.

If you are in the shoes that I was in May 2020, looking for a fresh start, I am here to tell you that it is possible. It is not an easy journey because apart from the hard work, you’ll have to deal with what other people think and possibly not earning income for a while. I am sending you love and support wherever you are and you can make it. You are good enough and you will succeed.
