NEWS FLASH: You Are Unique. Just like the Rest of Us
We all have those weird things that we do when we are alone, nervous, scared or angry. We get embarrassed when people notice it and ask us why we do so and so in public. Our cheeks start burning and we resolve to never repeat the habit again or at least make sure the nobody is around when we are doing it. Obviously we fail because they are a part of us and we just can't help but be ourselves when we are comfortable.
Sometimes when i get very nervous, i say the dumbest things. At an interview one time, i told my interviewer that i loved watching cartoons, when she asked me to tell her about myself. I was as shocked as she was when i realised the words that had come out of my mouth and i did the best thing that came to my mind;pretend that that was what i meant to say all along.
My ugly habit reared its head when a friend of mine introduced me to his girlfriend. When i opened my mouth to comment, I heard myself asking him if she wasn't too young of him. The awkward silence was as thick as a bar of gold and i can swear the his girlfriend had killed me more than once in her head.
I try very hard to think before i talk and most times i succeed. There are unfortunately those rare moments, when I can't close my mouth soon enough and my ugly private thoughts are thrown out into the open.
Even though it is obvious that my quirk or speaking before I think is a bad one, we all have those cute quirks which make us unique and stand out when we are in a crowd. You may be the guy who likes to wear a grey T-shirt almost all the time,#hint Mark Z., or might only like to take pictures with your left side, #hint A. Grande or you might prefer to wear your right sock and right shoe before you wear your left sock and left shoe. Whatever your special habit is, you are not alone.
Quirks are not always bad and can be used to our advantage if we only learn how. You can win a million dollars on a talent show, write a book about or start a blog about it. It is time to realise things that make us different are not always bad and to try to embrace our quirks and flaunt 'em.
Take time off during the day to think about the things that make you unique and embrace your quirk, though not the gross ones, like not brushing your teeth before speaking to other people.
